[SOLVED] Can't restart

I recently upgraded to 3 from 2 and my laptop will not restart if I select "restart" from the launcher menu. What happens is it will start the reboot process, but then it will just hang on a blank screen after the shutdown splash screen. I can power off the computer and power it back on again and everything is fine. Also, shutting down works fine, it's just rebooting that hangs. Is there any way to find what is causing this? I'm using a dell XPS L502.

its usually something down to acpi and the bios.
ive seen this come and go in between updates, so sometimes its caused by a change in internal code in new kernel versions.
this may well be the case for you.
would see if there is a bios update for your machine, but otherwise you way want to look at various kernel command line, amendments
based on issues people with your hardware have, a quick google of linux and your hardware may reveal something generic.
