Hauppauge WinTV PVR-150 Problems

I have a KWorld SAA7130-TVPCI, a Pinnavle Systems PCTV, and a Hauppauge WinTV PVR-150. I cannot get any of these working in Mageia. I had them working in the last Mandriva. Couldn't get to work in Mageia2, waited for 3 to come hoping it might get better, but still no dice. I think the PVR-150 will be the easiest to get working, I think, but need some ideas. All cards appear to load and run. The pinnacle card runs fluently but the video is very scrambled. The SAA7130 and the PVR-150 both try to run but stall and lag horribly and is very jerky.

Lets look at the Hauppauge WinTV PVR-150, unless you think I will have better luck with one of the others.

When I try to play in VLC using /dev/video0
Code: Select all
v4l2 error: Could not match pixel format
v4l2 error: Could not match pixel format
v4l2 error: Could not match pixel format
v4l2 error: Could not match pixel format
main error: open of `v4l2:///dev/video0' failed

When I try in VLC with PVR
Code: Select all

main error: ES_OUT_RESET_PCR called

I really need to get this working. We use this to record church services. We have a JVC camera on a tripod. This runs RCA to the composite input on the capture card. Did this previously in Mandriva with the SAA7130-TVPCI card but it wasn't great. Right now I don't have a working solution. Basically I need the linux equivilant of (Ugg) windows movie maker. Capture/Record/Edit/Process. I really don't want to have to run a windows box to do this. We currently have 7 computers in theis church, all run either Mandriva or Magiea. Well one runs (Ugg) bumtu just because it runs OpenSong better.

My end goal is mainly capture the Video/Audio from any capture card that I can get to work with Mageia. Edit the file. Burn to DVD. I really don't care what the process is. Kdenlive looks promising but have had no luck with it. I can dump to file, edit with OpenShot, Burn with K3B. I think you get what I'm trying to do here.

Thanks for your time!

Just tried the Kworld SAA7130 card in the mandriva box. Works also??? Maybe not a card driver issue?

The Pinnacle card uses the em28xx
The Kworld card uses the saa7134

Is there other things that will hose video capture in mageia?

How did you check?

To save me a long searching, can you please list a short overview of the three cards in 3 lines, the connection method (USB/PCI) behind and if/how you installed a firmware for those, and what each current status is (working/not working)?

Please also post the output of
Code: Select all
rpm -qa | grep firmware
and
Code: Select all
ls -al /dev/video*

For video capture testing, you could try qv4l2 from the package v4l-utils-qt4, or tvtime, cheese, xawtv, mplayer, ffmpeg ...
Although vlc works here (at least with my webcam, no DVB devices at hand currently) with
Code: Select all
vlc v4l2:///dev/video0
