KDE application launcher background color / theme

Postby wintpe » May 22nd, '13, 15:03

when you change the theme in KDE

you are still stuck with the classic application launcher that looks like a poorly implemented oxygen theme.

rather than a nice one "LIke the LaOra theme gave you"

how do you change the application launcher so it follows the theme of the taskbar etc.

that is the classic application launcher not the default kde one.

Aw, I rather like the cauldron. It's shiny. :D

But if you right-click on it, choose "Application Launcher Settings", and then click the icon, you can choose a new one. :)

i was not trying to change the icon.

I want to change the theme, of the start menu, so that it matches the theme of the taskbar, rather than looking like a big grey blob popping up from a nice glossy, transparent taskbar.

Oh, well then you want the Kickoff menu. That's designed to match the taskbar, and I'm not sure why it's not the default.

Unlock Widgets, then right-click on the cauldron menu button and select "Switch to Application Launcher style".

How did you install Mageia 3?

I see you have a couple of problems.

voodoodali with the greatest respect

I know how to change to the new style.

the question clearly stated the classic style is what i want to chnage the theme of.

my personal thought.

its hard coded into the mageia-kde4-config-common, hence why the kde-style-laora was the only way to change it.

so we get hard coded into a oxygen style wether we like it or not.

My apologies for misunderstanding the question. Again. :(

We are in agreement, though, that Mageia needs a new, unique look and feel. It would have to be optional, since of course not everyone would appreciate it. I will try to push for this in the planning processes for Mageia Four.

Peter, maybe it would be a valid enhancement request to ask for an additional configuration item for the following:
systemsettings -> workspace appearance -> workspace design -> details -> insert "classic KDE menu background" item here ... ?
Or at least maybe you can ask via that bugreport/enhancement request our KDE maintainers where to change that hardcoded setting
and share the information?

Please report back here if you have some results, or need some more help with that. :)

For completeness's sake and also to allow others to follow up on that bug report, please also post the link to it here in the thread, thanks. ;)
