Kmail 4.10.2 Startup/Check Mail Button Not Getting Email

Postby yankee495 » May 22nd, '13, 03:08

Hi,

After upgrading from Mageia 2 x64 to Mageia 3 x64 the Check Mail button in Kmail is not working. I can't find anything about it so I thought I'd ask if anyone else has the problem. Also setting it to check mail on startup doesn't work.

I have to hold the Check Mail button and select the account and it works. There is only one account. Also, there are two buttons you can use, Check Mail and Check In...neither work nor does the menu item Check Mail. Menu item Check mail in>account does work.

Before I just hit the button and it got my mail. It may be a Kmail bug but I thought I'd ask and post it so other people could find it. It may be something on my system because I have not found anyone else talking about it.

Do you get any error messages when you are open kmail from the konsole and trying to receive the mails?

Do you use pop3 or imap to retrieve your mails?

Does any of the kde bugs reports fit to your issue?

POP3 and no error in the terminal other than a font warning.

Nope, doesn't match either bug. I read about people complaining that Kmail won't get mail on start up and mine won't either.

Used an install DVD x64 and did the updates after reboot with urpmi --auto-update.

It does nothing...hitting check mail just activates the button.

If you hold the Check Mail in...button it will drop down a list with your account and clicking that gets the mail.

File menu>check mail don't work and
file menu>Check mail in (Your account) works.

Not a show stopper but it did work and I believe it to be KDE.

Does anyone else have one that works?

Interestingly, I have been running Cauldron for a while and this version of KMail, Kontact, and Akonadi have given me no trouble most of the way through the upgrade process since KDE-4.10RC until now. I have to exit Kontact, restart Akonadi and then start Kontact again sometimes to get one of my IMAP services to start again. I think the reliability of your internet or network connection may have something to do with this. I am on a wireless broadband that disconnects and re-connects constantly and that seems to cause Akonadi to refuse to retrieve mail without intervention. I think it may be something to do with the automatic network detection or signalling from the network manager.
I hope Mageia updates KDE when upstream gets this smooted out.
In the meantime you can ALT+F2>akonadictl restart and then restart your mail client if checking mail does not work for you.

It just doesn't activate mail checking. The progress bar on the bottom right never shows up.

I take it you are using an old pre-existing /home? When this happened to me I could only fix it my moving the kmail dot folder and starting over from scratch, manually entering the servers, accounts etc, and 'importing' contacts from the old setup. Serious pain in the butt, but it was the only way that button would work.

There is a bug report here about Kmail not getting mail on startup. Mine don't either.

Still looking for "Check Mail Button Not Working".

You could test by temporarily moving the kmail configs and starting with a blank slate. Set up your accounts and check the button. If it works you're 1/2 way there already, just set it up the way you like, import contacts and you're done.

I tried renaming kmail2rc in /home/user name/.kde4/share/config/

It ask for my info, set up the account and still no mail check. The button just doesn't work.

I'll look around some more.

Could it be just a problem with the KDE theme you're using?

You could also try with a fresh user account.

Dok,

I tried the guest account. Also, Accounts>include in manual check and check mail on startup are selected/deselected and it makes no difference.

I'm stumped. File>Check Mail in>my account works. Plain File>Check mail or Ctrl +L does not.

Changed desktop themes and Kmail theme. I did check the md5sum too before upgrading. People were talking about Kmail not getting mail at startup but never found out why because they just installed KDE 4.10.3. I can live without it because it will do its job.

I just thought I'd ask in case it was easy and I was over looking it and so others could find it.
