lightscribe fail

mageia 3 x86-64
lightscribe-1.18.27.10-linux-2.6-intel
lightscribeApplications-1.18.15.1-linux-2.6-intel
Installed without error message.
User added to wheel group.

Lightscribe SimpleLabeler is failing to run as user or root - segfault.
4L Labeler runs OK.

Ran OK (as root only) (previous version) in mageia 2. Previous version will not install here.

Cheers

Is this only a "for your information"-type post? If not, what's the actual problem that you want to fix, given that 4L labeler runs ok?

SimpleLabeler is the program I use the more often for text only labelling, 4L is the program for burning graphic labels (slower to compose, slower to burn). I would like to have both working.

Edit: FWIW the above listed RPM's work OK in kororaa 17 and 18. The originating website says the RPM's were tested on suse.

Cheers

What glibc version does kororaa have?

And can you please run the following and attach the resulting output file here? (Replace command_to_run_simplelabeler_here with the command you use to run simple labeler)
Code: Select all
strace -f -o output.log command_to_run_simplelabeler_here

Code: Select all
# strace -f -o output.log /opt/lightscribeApplications/SimpleLabeler/SimpleLabeler
Using /etc/lightscribe.rc
Segmentation fault

kororaa 18 uses glibc 2.16

Well, it seems to crash when reading information about/from the drive ...
I'd say maybe google a bit for the problem, if this happens on other machines?

Maybe the program is just too old, AFAK it's from before 2006, and happened there, too

The versions of the programs in question here date from October 2009.
http://www.lacie.com/support/drivers/driver.htm?id=10081

The versions mentioned in 2006 are the ones I used in mga 2 and before - without any segfault problem.
lightscribe-1.4.142.1-linux-2.6-intel.rpm
lightScribeSimpleLabeler-1.4.128.1-linux-2.6-intel.rpm

The on-line posts (2006) I can find refer to the lightscribe System Software program (4L) segfaulting. However that program seems to start up OK here without segfault. The problem here is with the SimpleLabeler program (which depends on the System Software program).

In the 2006 posts, as here, the strace indication is as you point out related to the attempt to handshake with the disk.

If all else fails, I can boot into kororaa (fedora) to burn a label.

I do not have alternative hardware to try.

UPDATE:
http://www.lightscribe.com/downloadSection/linux/index.aspx
Have just installed and run successfully in cauldron - SimpleLabeler.
Date modified on the executable is May 19, 2010
Have reinstalled same program in mga 3. Still no joy.
From the look of the UI this program is unchanged from the original in 2006.

EDIT:
Reinstalled system software, 4L, and SimpleLabeler in mageia3. Only 4L works here, not SimpleLabeler.
Both 4L (LaCie) and SimpleLabeler (lightscribe) work in cauldron.
Installations are identical.
