[SOLVED] M3 not alerting me to system updates

Postby VoodooDali » May 21st, '13, 00:31

Greetings:

I performed a clean install of Mageia 3 from the Live DVD yesterday. Since then, everything has been running beautifully, except that I am not being alerted when new updates are available for my system.

In the MCC, using "Update your system" returns an empty list. But using "Install/Remove Software" brings up a list of available updates by category. I received no notification that these updates were ready to install, nor (again) did "Update your system" detect them.

Thoughts? Should I reconfigure my media using urpmi, perhaps? And if so, can you help me with the commands? Thanks :ugeek:

I'm not sure where you're seeing these updates as all update repositories are empty.

Again, I found these updates by going into "Install or remove software" in the MCC and selecting "All updates".

As I said, the update repositories are empty so what repositories do these updates reside in?

I'm not sure if this answers your question, but the URL for the Core repository reads "ftp://mirrors.kernel.org/mageia/distrib/3/x86_64/media/core/release".

EDIT: The Core Updates URL reads "ftp://mirrors.kernel.org/mageia/distrib/3/x86_64/media/core/updates".

If you click on one of the packages then expand Details it will tell you in which repository it resides.

Gah... sorry, too late for that. I installed the updates already.

I just tested and with the default repositories from a Live DVD installation a search for All Updates in Add and Remove Software gives no updates.
However if I activate the Tainted repositories then search for All Updates in Add and Remove Software the equivalent packages in Tainted are seen as updates to the ones in the Core repository.

If you think that the update utilities only looking at the update repositories is a bug which I don't you're free to file a bug report.

Those are not updates, those are part of the upgrade which has not completed yet, as the DVD only contains a subset of all packages.
Check e.g. https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Mageia_3_Rel ... to_Upgrade

As both VoodooDali and myself used the Live DVD there was no upgrade but rather a clean install.
As packages in Tainted are seen as newer than those in Core but are not in an Update repository "Update your system" doesn't see them.
I just use "urpmi --auto-update" after enabling the Tainted repositories as it looks in all enabled repositories.
It's been that way from the first Mageia release and was that way with the PLF repositories in Mandriva.
