Yes. Install task-gnome. Gnome will be offered as an option in the login screen (in the Session menu). You may also want to install GDM and use the Gnome display manager. (MCC -> Boot -> Set up display manager)

Use MCC (Mageia Control Centre) -> Software Management
https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Software_management

I'm not aware of any bugs that will affect installing task-gnome or gdm.

@digigold: What's your problem? Is there a need to be so offensive and rude? Please make an apology, but please sincerely.

@laskachien, It was not my intent to insult you, just GNOME.

One of my duties is to support a call-center of about 30 employees that has run KDE in SUSE Linux Enterprise for some time. Their department just got a new manager who decided that they should be using GNOME as it's the only Linux DE he has seen before. So I spent my Sunday afternoon/evening switching them over and will now have to deal with the understandably annoyed and confused employees this week so I was hating GNOME even more than usual.

That said, my post was still way off-topic and dickish. I apoligize if I offended you as I'm honestly not that kind of poster and actually try to be helpful to those new to Linux when I can.

Ok that s over now,and I take attention of what you think about Gnome.
Why I wanted to change because Konsole give an awfull kind of bash interpreter,an example usually you enter su - root here you do only enter root!!!!A list of his command come with very differents Cdes!!!Linux is wonderfull but not for users for some crazy developpers...............

No, that is not true:

Code: Select all
[doktor5000@Mageia2 ~]$ echo $SHELL
/bin/bash
[doktor5000@Mageia2 ~]$ root
bash: root: command not found
[doktor5000@Mageia2 ~]$ su - root
Password:
[root@Mageia2 ~]# echo $SHELL
/bin/bash

Please keep your problems with konsole/bash/su - in the separate thread, no need to mention this in all threads you post.
And as i've already written, that's not a problem with konsole nor KDE, as konsole is only a terminal emulator, the same as gnome-terminal.
Bash will still work as it does now, even if you change to gnome.

Please keep that problem in viewtopic.php?f=18&t=4932 where you didn't even answer when we gave you some pointers ...

You can always install task-gnome, then logout and select gnome as your session, if you really want gnome.

I wonder if it is good to recommend task-gnome, when it might pull in packages that some will not appreciate, or that have been controversial in the past such as mono. Would it not be more prudent to first recommend task-gnome-minimal, and let the user install whatever extra from there?

Code: Select all
.:[ dedanna@dedanna.rockz.net : 06:14:36 : ~ ]:.
:) urpmq -i task-gnome-minimal
Name        : task-gnome-minimal
Version     : 3.6.2
Release     : 2.mga3
Group       : Graphical desktop/GNOME
Size        : 0                            Architecture: noarch
Source RPM  : task-gnome-3.6.2-2.mga3.src.rpm
Summary     : Minimal dependencies needed for GNOME desktop
Description :
This package is a meta-package, meaning that its purpose is to contain
minimal dependencies for running a minimal GNOME desktop environment.

It was in Mageia 2 as well, and in Mageia 1.

It was in Mageia 2 as well, and in Mageia 1.

What was in Mageia 2 and 1?
And which packages do you think are not apreciated by some? Why is/was mono controversial?

Actually only task-gnome is supported by the gnome maintainer, as it provides a full gnome desktop.
