kde update causes problem

Postby daniewicz » May 11th, '13, 22:46

I am running Mageia 2 64 bit with KDE and a nvidia graphics card. Last night I received updates to KDE (4.8.5). These updates corrupted my install and prodiced a desktop environment that looks like this (http://img526.imageshack.us/img526/7963/kdes.png). I had to reinstall the nvidia driver to fix. Just a heads up. :x

Do/did you have desktop effects activated? Also, are you sure that nvidia drivers are/were really used?

For what it's worth, i'm also using nvidia drivers, and installed the update, and nothing happened (besides quite some bugs that were fixed, looking at the changelog).

Yes I have desktop effects activated.

Yes the nvidia driver is being used. I have an old GeForce FX 5200 card with driver version 173.14.37 downloaded from the nvidia website.

$ cat /proc/driver/nvidia/agp/status
Status: Enabled
Driver: AGPGART
AGP Rate: 8x
Fast Writes: Enabled
SBA: Enabled

I would amuse that the updates included a new kernel.
Does an older kernel work correctly?

There was not a new kernel in the kde related updates last night. The kernel I have been using for some time and continue to use is 3.3.8-desktop-2.mga2

Well, you are not using the NVIDIA driver from our repo. We can't guarantee a working system if it's not coming from our repo.
