Net installer only uses WEP?

Postby earthman » Apr 24th, '13, 05:49

I tried to use the net install CD image today on my laptop. When it detected the wifi adapter, it prompted for the essid and the WEP key? I don't use WEP, it's obsolete. Why isn't there some other option?

Actually I am surprised that wireless connectivity is supported at all with so many wireless devices requiring proprietary firmware or drivers which cannot cannot be included on media under a 'free' license.

Do you not have an ethernet port on your laptop?

I downloaded the net install cd ISO with non-free drivers and firmware. There is no reason why wireless would not be supported, there are many adapters that work out of the box.

In that iso only WEP protected or open APs are supported. Here's the bug: https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=9541 - but not sure when or if at all it will be implemented to support WPA(2) protected APs as well.
