Yes It is probably due to your video card. To recover do this :-
At the boot menu select 'Safe Mode' It will boot to a text based screen. Log in using root password (actually it may not even ask for a login I forget)
At the prompt run the command
- Code: Select all
XFdrake
You will now be in a text based GUI to set up the video card. Use Tab to switch between fields. Select the 'vesa' video driver and save.
Now reboot and you should get a graphical login.
You are not finished yet. The vesa driver is a generic 2D driver. To get the best use of your ATI card you need the proprietary ati driver. To get it do this :-
In MageiaControlCentre>Software>MediaSources Add a full set of online sources (if you have not already done so) Ensure the Non-free and Non-free Updates source is enabled in the checkbox. (You may like to enable the 'Tainted' source also if you would like to be able to do things like play DVDs)
Now run the Updates section of MageiaControlCentre>Software to get the latest updates. There are quite a lot. It will take a long time.
Now in MageiaControlCentre>Hardware>GraphicalServer run the GUI to set up your video card again. You will be offered the proprietary ATI driver. Select it and then reboot.
After the reboot you will be using the proprietary driver.
Good luck.
