You don't say what happened when you tried to install Office, before changing the library packages, nor do you say which packages you changed, and so it's difficult to know how one can help, other than to suggest the obvious.

If you have a 32 bit version of Office, then you need the wine32 package and not the wine64 package, even when you are running 64 bit Mageia..
Did you check that the wine service was running before trying to install Office? (MCC - System -Services.)

If you already have the wine32 package installed, you could try re-installing it:
Code: Select all
urpmi --replacepkgs wine32

I had tried to change this dll file: : rpcrt4.dll and msxml3.msi, i had found this method in this link http://www.appunti-liberi.it/?p=1015. Before this test wine worked, because i had installed 7zip.exe and it worked. However my question is, why if i try to uninstall and reinstall this program i have the same problem? When i uninstall some dll file aren't deleted?

If you are referring to the files in your ~./wine directory, then uninstalling the Mageia package will not touch those files. You could try manually replacing the files that you changed in ~./wine/drive_c/windows/system32 with the versions in /usr/lib/wine/fakedlls/.

An alternative solution would be to "start over" by deleting ~./wine, but you would have to re-install any other programs that you have installed under wine.

Wine is updated regularly and that link is very old. According to the AppDB no such modifications are required to the default wine installation.

You do not need to be administrator to do what I suggested. As a normal user, in your file manager program (for example dolphin) navigate to /usr/lib/wine/fakedlls and copy the files that you need to /home/francesco/.wine/drive_c/windows/system32. They will overwrite the files that you downloaded from that page that you quoted. Do not attempt to modify any of the files in /usr/lib/wine.

/home/francesco/.wine is a hidden folder in your home folder and so you need to set the view mode in your file manager to "display hidden files".

I don't think that there is any corruption in the Mageia system files (/usr/lib/wine). It is more likely that the problem stems from the changes that you made in your personal wine setup, which is in your home directory in the hidden .wine folder.

It may may be a lot easier for you follow my alternative suggestion to start over fresh by deleting /home/francesco/.wine. You should then be able to run winecfg, (in the menu it is Tools - Emulators - Wine - Configurator). It will create a new .wine folder in your home folder.

Thank you so much Jim, I solved my problem deleting the directory /home/francesco/.wine. However if i try to do yours first advice, i could't change some file in the directory system32, if i try to copy and paste, i couldn't select the paste button.

I would not recommend trying to do that. That file contains the program sources for a development version, which would have to be compiled. Wine is a complex set of programs and compiling them is for the experts. It is beyond my capabilities.

The version of wine in Mageia 2 (1.4.1) is the most recent stable version. According to Wine AppDB, it is able to run Office 2007.

I'm afraid I don't think that I can be of much more help. I don't use MS Office - I use LibreOffice, which can read and create MS Office files. Perhaps someone else has installed MS Office 2007 in wine and will help.

Mageia 3 is now at an advanced stage of development and has the latest available version of wine (1.5.26). Beta 4 will be released soon (probably no later than early next week). You may want to try it when it becomes available.

Office 2007 can also be used with older versions of wine. Check http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ezzXiGx1k_U

Re: Problem with Wine

IIRC, I installed 64-bit WINE, but had to install WINE 32-bit as well, to get wine operating with my application. Still, I found I needed libkwineffects1 (a KDE 4 core library) to stop WINE from crashing while doing certain things with my app.

I have installed WINE from source before on Fedora. There were numerous dependencies that I had to install to get WINE to configure without any errors. After it was done, it worked well, but it was very time consuming.

Here is a list of the dependencies that I had to install at the time to get WINE to compile without error.

Yes, because 64bit Wine only provides support for Win64, for normal usage you always need wine32, irrelevant if you have
an 64bit or 32bit host system running.

No need to compile it from source. Even if you really want, easiest way would be to install all build dependencies
by automatically installing the buildrequirements for the Mageia wine src.rpm.

FWIW:
Code: Select all
[doktor5000@Mageia2 ~]$ sudo LC_ALL=C urpmi --buildrequires ftp://ftp.nluug.nl/pub/os/Linux/distr/mageia/distrib/2/SRPMS/core/release/wine-1.4-1.mga2.src.rpm
In order to satisfy the 'fonttracer' dependency, one of the following packages is needed:
1- potrace-1.10-1.mga2.x86_64: Utility for transforming a bitmap into a scalable image (to install)
2- autotrace-0.31.1-34.mga2.x86_64: Program for converting bitmap to vector graphics (to install)
What is your choice? (1-2)
To satisfy dependencies, the following packages are going to be installed:
  Package                        Version      Release       Arch
(medium "Core Release")
  chrpath                        0.13         9.mga1        x86_64

36MB of packages will be retrieved.
Proceed with the installation of the 19 packages? (Y/n) ^C

When I installed wine from source for Fedora 14, it was because Fedora 14's version of wine did not work with my app. It worked fine in Fedora 11 and 12, and worked fine in Fedora 15, 16, 17, and currently in 18. At the time, I suspected it was because Fedora compiled wine without all possible dependencies.

I notice the list of dependencies for wine-1.4-1.mga2.src.rpm is somewhat shorter than the list I posted for Fedora 14. Makes me wonder if all possible dependencies for wine are required by wine-1.4-1.mga2.src.rpm. Also, would using wine-1.4-1.mga2.src.rpm in the method you describe result in any differences from just installing wine normally from MCC? Offhand, I would think not - but I could be wrong.

If you could use urpmi --buildrequires with a tarball, that would really be something! But I am fairly confident the answer is no.

Well, depends what you want.
If you only want wine, install wine and wine32 from the repos normally and it works.

If you need a newer version and/or want to compile it from source, then install the buildrequires
and compile it from the tarball (but you still need to manually select the options you want.
Or you could use the src.rpm from cauldron and rebuild that, then you directly get the configuration
which mageia provides for wine.
