[SOLVED] Problem boot Mageia on USB

Postby Sheataa » Mar 14th, '13, 13:17

Hello, I'm a new in the Community and i really want to install Mageia 2.

I've got an ASUS U36S and so there isn't a CD PLAYER.

I have downloaded "Mageia-2-LiveCD-GNOME-Europe1-Americas-x86_64-CD" And Lili.
When i try to boot on USB I have a black screen with "grub >" and some command... I tried "boot" but nothing. I tried "find /boot/......" but "file not exist".

So i try to mount Iso on usb with Unebootin, rufus or fedroaUSB And now with these softs ,if i want to see my USB in my BIOS, i have to Enable "UEFI Boot" but when i try to boot, my Computer boot on win7 ..

My question is simple, how i can install Mageai ??

Thank you very much and sorry for my English ...!

I had exactly the same problem just today.
Use Mandriva seed. It worked for me.

The UEFI boot may still be a gotcha on this, but if you're using Linux, there is no need for a program to make yer boot disk with. :)
Code: Select all
su -
password
cd /path/to/iso
dd if=Mageia-2-LiveCD-GNOME-Europe1-Americas-x86_64-CD.iso of=/dev/sdx

... where /dev/sdx is the drive of the usb you want to put the .iso onto. Wait a bit for it to finish, then reboot, set your bios to boot to usb.

I had exactly the same problem as you with my netbook; tried unetbootin, all sorts of programs, to no avail, then found out this nifty command-line trick.

If you use Windows, I'm not sure (you didn't state what OS you're on).

Please also take a look at https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Installation ... B_stick.3F for more alternatives which have been reported working.
