I know that Mageia 2 has all the major desktop environments:

KDE4 SC 4.8.2,
GNOME 3.4,
XFCE 4.9,
LXDE,
Razor-Qt,
E17.

I want to try out XFCE desktop . I ran Live USB but it didn't offer me any option about thisat the start up so it installed a dekstop like Fedora 18 Gnome. Is it possible to try XFCE desktop out without installing if it is how ?

thanks

There is no LiveCD edition using XFCE although there is nothing to stop you installing XFCE while running a Live KDE or Gnome CD so long as you have enough RAM.
Once the system is running define the online repositories using MageiaControlCentre>Software>Media and then using the software install GUI install the package task-xfce.

Then log out of the desktop and you will be presented with a login screen where you can select XFCE as the desktop.

The XFCE installation will be to ramdisk so you will lose it if you reboot.
