Basic question: Installing Mageia 3 Beta 2 (time and data)

Hello,
yesterday I installed for the first time Mageia 3 Beta 2 and it worked out of the box. :D

But I was a bit shocked that it took like 50 - 60 min.
In the meantime and in the beginning it even showed: "Time remaining 1:23" and much later: "Time remaining 1:44". This I only remember from Microsoft ...

I installed Ubuntu in less then 30 min several times (just a CD - using a SSD) and Linux Mint and Fedora was quite alike. And the amount of software was quite the same? Only that gimp had to be added? Or did I oversee huges bunches of software? :o Because ... it was 4 Gigabyte to install Mageia and only a CD (700 MByte) to install Ubuntu, Linux Mint, Fedora - as far as I can remember.

Where can I find a list of the software installed?

Via rpm -qa in a terminal or in rpmdrake -> set the second filter to Installed, but you have to go through each category ...

not necessarily.

In MageiaControlCentre>Software>Install/Remove

Set the right hand drop down menu to 'Installed'
Set the 'View' option to 'All packages alphabetical'

How long the install takes does depend on how many packages are selected. In the 'Classical installer' on DVD you have the option of individual package selection so you can avoid installing stuff you do not want.

You're comparing apples and oranges. The 4GB DVD is the full install. Think OpenSUSE.

If you know that you want KDE or Gnome and you want something comparable to the Ubuntu iso to stick on a USB, choose a live CD (680MB).

Or maybe Mageia's becoming too bloated ;)
