Conky and the plasma desktop

Postby catowner » Feb 11th, '13, 14:29

I have a conky script running on a plasma desktop (KDE) however, whenever I click on the plasma desktop the conky display disappears but I know it is still running as when I close down KDE the conky display appears briefly befire it too closes down.

How can I display conky on the desktop without it disapearing when I click on the desktop?

The same here.
Haven't searched for the way to "glue" conky to the desktop, but the way working for me to call it when necessary is as follows:
- switch to empty desktop,
- press Alt+Tab
... and it will be visible.

Hope it helps.

Can you please post/attach your conkyrc?

Hope this is the right one.
Icould recall it only from the empty desktop, afterwards it''s wisible even when another desktop is active (conky acts as background).
For me it''s ok, just it took a while get used to this.

No, you should take a look into /home/username/.conkyrc (that is a hidden file, like most other settings)

No such file under /home/auns/ (if Dolphin with "show hidden files" enabled could be trusted).

Then it''s using the default one (from somewhere)?

Image

It is a good idea to:
Code: Select all
cp /etc/conky/conky.conf ~/.conkyrc
(~/.conkyrc will take precedence over /etc/conky/conky.conf)
That way everybody is right :D

I seem to remember that own_window_transparent yes could help...
But posting your conky.conf/.conkyrc here is the best thing to do.

He already did, he's using the system-wide, maybe all default settings: viewtopic.php?p=30940#p30940

Putting own_window_transparent yes on top of the file makes it transparent here:
Code: Select all
own_window_transparent yes
alignment top_left
background no
border_width 1
cpu_avg_samples 2
default_color white
default_outline_color white
default_shade_color white
draw_borders no
draw_graph_borders yes
draw_outline no
draw_shades no
use_xft yes
etc etc,,
Image Flexibility is good and inxi is good... install both!
