Postby SAlineBoy » Feb 10th, '13, 12:26

Running Kubuntu 12.10 on my other machine, Skype works perfectly, not so in on my new installation of Mageia 2.

Thanks in advance

Find in internet that package - skype-2.1.0.81-fc10.i586.rpm
It is build for fedora, but works also in mandriva and mageia.
Before installation:
urpmi libqtdbus4 /with all deps/
then rpm -ivh --nodeps skype-2.1.0.81-fc10.i586.rpm /--nodeps option is nessesary because that package does not recognize already instaled qt4-qtdbus libraries for mageia/
update-menus
then skype works.
I use it and haven't got any problems - voice and video chat also works.

If you have your 'nonfree' repos activated a simple
Code: Select all
# urpmi get-skype
should install you a working skype on your Mageia installation

Latte is right, but that version of skype, which has been installed by "urpmi get-skype" crashed on my computer after trying to run it, I do not know why. Perhabs my laptop is too old.

The sykpe version (skype-2.2.0.35.tar.bz2) which will be installed by 'get-skype' is not so much knewer than yours... And if you check the skype website the requirements for the latest version (skype-4.1.0.20) are:
    1 GHz processor or faster.
    256 MB RAM.
100 MB free disk space on your hard drive.
So I doubt that the crash is due to your old laptop - or is it soo old ;) ?
Maybe you can start skype from the konsole and paste the error messages...

Sooo old- RAM 128 MB :) Meanwhile, I wrote my post as an alternative posibility, if the version of skype in mageia mirrors crashes.

Please post the output of
Code: Select all
urpmi get-skype
in a terminal as root

Apart from that, please look at the existing MAQeia for Skype: viewtopic.php?f=36&t=1121
