How does one get kmail to work?

I've been trying to configure kmail, and it's a real pain. First it wouldn't accept my adding a new account. I discovered that I was trying to enter an account name in the "wrong" place. It seemed reasonable to enter a name in the only vacant box in the window :? . Anyway I got the done and every time I try to enter a password it brings up "Wallet" which I never use. It has lousy security. Now it's sitting there and I click on "Get Mail" and nothing happens! I mean NOTHING! It just sits there. I tried to get another email client butthe software installer says there are none, in fact it doesn't even show kmail. I've never had so much trouble trying to get a distro running.

Have you done your updates?
Do your updates before trying to configure kmail.

Personally I gave up on kmail when akonadi became a requirement. There are plenty of other mail clients in Mageia, For example, Thunderbird, evolution, claws.

If you cannot find them in the software installer then perhaps you have not defined your online repositories yet?

Thanks. I thought the update happened when I installed, but I'll look into it. I have tried the online repositories but they seem to disappear shortly after and I never see any email clients. Maybe it's an update issue too. I'll check it.
