shutdown button doesn't work

Hi,

I am using Mageia 2 with KDE and since a week or so, everything freezes if I use the shutdown button (from the menu or from the toolbox). It works fine though if I type 'shutdown' in a terminal.
Is anyone else experiencing the same or does anyone have a suggestion to fix this?

thanks!

Do you see anything at boot time about a process called "plymouth" failing to terminate? If you hit "esc" during startup you see the messages on screen, you might have to hit "esc" more than once. Look for 'waiting for plymouth..' and see if it comes up FAILED. (also look in /var/log/messages) This plymouth thing has caused graphical problems before, including problems with graphical shutdown utilities. It might be your problem.

I assume you have fully updated the system?

Thanks for the reply.
Yes, the system is fully updated. However, I do not see anything related to "plymouth" failing during startup. For the moment I use the shutdown command in a terminal and it works. I would be curious to know what is the exact command applied by the shutdown button - where could I find this out? I could then try it with possible variations to see what is failing for example...
