[SOLVED] Java plugin not showing up in Firefox

Postby Gan_HOPE326 » Jan 14th, '13, 14:08

Hello,

I'm having problems with the Sun Java plugin after updating the JRE to 1.7.0_11 due to the recent security issues. I installed the new running environment, then created a symbolic link to libnpjp2.so in my mozilla/plugins folder. By the way, I'm using the amd64 version. Now both Chromium and Opera use the plugin fine, referencing it from the same folder, but Firefox does not - it gives me a yellow screen and tells me the plugin is either disabled or missing. I checked into the Add Ons Manager and in the about:plugins page, and Java does not appear at all. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling Firefox as well. At this point, I ran out of ideas. Suggestions? I heard that Firefox has blocked many Java version, but I thought the latest one was considered fine.

EDIT: sorry, all solved, the problem was only that I linked the plugin in the /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins folder instead of the /usr/lib64/mozilla/plugins.

If you don't need the plugin system-wide, e.g. only for your user, you can also symlink it to /home/username/.mozilla/firefox/profileid.default/plugins/ ;)
