Digital Camera

Postby saptech » Dec 24th, '12, 03:26

I have a Kodak C300 digital camera and would like to use it with my original install of M3A2. The only cam software that I see is Digikam but I really don't want to use it since I'm using Gnome3. Digikam wants to install 172 KDE files. That seems like quite a bit for just cam software.

I thought Gnome2 did offer Gtkam but I'm not able to get it from the repositories. Does anyone know of any other cam software I can install?

Thnx.

Shotwell, f-spot or gthumb maybe?

Thanks for the reply, I didn't know shotwell would pick up a camera. But it my case, it seems nothing is picking up the camera.
I was able to install Mandriva 2011 gtkam rpm, along with libexif-gtk.so, which I couldn't find in Mga's repositories. I got it working but it always can't detect any cameras message.

I did put in a new request in bugzilla for gtkam.

When I first plug the camera in usb port, the power light blinks for awhile then stops. When I look in command dmesg, I see this:

Code: Select all
[48918.918028] usb 2-2: new full-speed USB device number 2 using uhci_hcd
[48919.270048] usb 2-2: New USB device found, idVendor=040a, idProduct=057e
[48919.270055] usb 2-2: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=3
[48919.270061] usb 2-2: Product: KODAK EasyShare C300 Digital Camera
[48919.270065] usb 2-2: Manufacturer: Eastman Kodak Company
[48919.270070] usb 2-2: SerialNumber: ÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿ
[48924.250074] usb 2-2: USB disconnect, device number 2

When I run lsusb before accessing the camera I see it listed but once I try to access the cam it seems to disappear from the lsusb command next time I type it.

I haven't used this camera in awhile and will have to verify if the camera is still workable.

Thnx.

I probably would choose Canon. No major reason other then it is one of the popular brands. Do you mean Nikon, they are good cameras also.
