Help!
I loaded mageia just fine on an older shuttle XPC computer. But my CMOS battery died and it bombed. when I loaded the
defaults and set up the BIOS it would load linux and the installer but then blank the video. Linux is still running but no
screen. When i press the off button it then displays all the shutdown text and turns off. It never did that before.
Any ideas will help Thanks J.D.

How did it die, how did you notice, and how did it "bomb"?
As the only problem a lost CMOS battery causes is usually that the realtime clock needs to be set at every boot.
If it runs emtpy when the compute is online you will usually not notice at all, and it has no impact.

If the battery is empty, did you replace it?

yes i replaced the battery! I had loaded mageia 1 and 2 previous to this with no problems.
the bomb happened when i was loading libraries to ffmpeg and others. The screen froze for about two minutes but
returned. I shut down and rebooted but my personal home space was gone! i could not sign in except for guest
account. all my files were gone. The next reboot linux would not come up at all. so i loaded fedora wich complained
about ACPI PWR_objects mising but loaded just fine. I then loaded linux mint UGH! so i think the hardware is okay
but Mageia loads, it simply turns off the video. I've tried turning video blanking on suspend OFF in the bios
to no effect. J.P.

Well, seems more like your installation got damaged. Did you run Fedora and Mint as Live DVDs?

Yes fedora and mint loaded fine as live cd's but fedora complained about ACPI pwr_objects.

Well comparing a session from a live cd with your possibly broken installation is like comparing apples to oranges.
Backup your data/settings, do a fresh install and see if it reoccurs.
