[SOLVED] Mageia 2 - K Menu Slow to Display

EDIT doktor5000: Split out from viewtopic.php?f=15&t=1711 and merged with newly created thread.
I am having this K menu problem. It is about 4-6 seconds before it displays it. I have a quad core with a SSD so this should be instant. Also I installed Mageia on an almost identical computer last night and it is instant (another convert).
I have deleted the icon cache in /var/tmp and it rebuilt it at login. I don't know if it is using it though...I assume it is. This puts me back at the ATI fglrx drivers. Compiz and KDE effects work and are turned off.
Video seems to be right. It does this on new user accounts and on kernel 3.3.6 & 3.3.8. I've spent a couple of days poking around with no luck. All updates are installed.

Please use a new thread for this problem. Also this seems more about Mageia 2 and not about Cauldron?

Sorry Dok, I over looked that when I searched.

Very simple answer. In Application Launcher Menu Settings I had Computer check marked. This causes it to spin up the optical drives to ID the disks and there are two of them. Uncheck that option and it is instant.

No problem, i've just split it into a new thread.
Anyways, back to your problem: Is that a new Mageia 2 install, or an upgrade? And did you start with a fresh /home?
Does it also happen for a newly created user?

Nevermind, just saw that you created a new thread, merged it into this one, and saw that you already solved it and adjusted the title.
FWIW, is this with the classic KDE menu or with the Kickoff one? And if the former, is the setting you mentioned via the KDE menu Settings -> View -> Computer checkbox?

Yeah, Dok, I'm a creature of habit so I enabled it on the new account too. I wasn't thinking and I listen to the news a lot while I'm on the computer so I didn't hear the drives spin up. And like I said, I installed a whole new computer last night so it has been hard to keep my mind on my glitches.
I've been posting the problems I have not so much for help but so when I do get them they will be here for others. This was really a duh moment when I found it.
Fact is...it is pretty solid for the most part. My friend was telling me about some small problems and about the third time I told him to do the updates he did and all is well.
With the SSD I have never had a faster computer. It is a real joy to use. It is pretty fast on a good HDD too. I just love Mageia (learning helps)!!!

Classic, and yes, right click the Mageia Icon, select Application Launcher Menu Settings and check mark "Computer", and it spins up the drives to ID the disks. Causes a several second delay in the menu display. Really drags down a fast computer.
