[SOLVED] Live CD boot failure

Have new asrock z77 board w/intel proc, new build. Have win7 on ssd/hdd and optimized well for that, runs well. Verified no hardware problems. Old version lubuntu and linuxmint 9 boot fine. Have geforce video card. Attemptimg to livecd mageia2(works in another pc) in preparation to try to dual boot. Have tried with the xdriver=vesa. Boot hangs after:

VFS: cannot open root device "(null)" or unknown-block (0,0)
Please append a correct "root=" boot option; here are the available partitions:
(nothing listed)
kernel panic - not syncing : VFS: unable to mount root FS on unknown-block
and then
Pid: 1, comm:swapper Not tainted
and then some call trace stuff, a few lines and that is it.

I do not have the slightest idea how to fix this. really want to stick w/Mageia, but I am having difficulty using google as my friend as not much helpful is showing up, at least nothing easy.

Problem solved. kept getting ata arror. had optical drive(couple years old) plugged into nearest sata socket (sata3) and sata drive and old sata cable. plugged into much farther away sata2 socket and works now without hitch.

Seems it depends to which SATA port your connected your drives to. Or otherwise could be an MBR/UEFI problem.
Maybe you want to look at http://www.linuxforums.org/forum/instal ... post907610 or https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=150128

EDIT: Just saw you already solved it. Had this thread open since this morning, just came around to post now. Nevertheless, please mark the thread accordingly
by editing the topic of the first post and prefix it by [SOLVED], thanks

looks like exactly the same problem. Mageia working well on system now. Not writing GRUB to mbr though, using win7 bootloader and easybcd.
