[SOLVED] Mageia 2 - xserver / internet connection issues

PostPosted: Oct 1st, '12, 20:08

Hello,

I'm very new to Mageia and today, after some reading I thought to give it a try.
I have 2 big problems.
1)I could not configure my internet connection. I'm having a pppoe connection, and after inserting the username and password on the configuration "wizard" (when installing Mageia), the connection test was failing no matter what. So, first problem: no internet

2)After the installation process finished, I boot on my new system and... surprise: no X. I run the drakx11 app as suggested but with no success. First, I got the screen with the dialog box to keep the settings, but I could not control the mouse cursor and hitting the TAB key had no effect either. After that I delete all the content of the xorg.conf file and run drakx11 again and this time I got an error saying that no "mouse" and "kbd" module where present.
my video card: nvidia geforce 210
I tried another fresh install, but had (and still having) the same problems.
Any help will be appreciated :D
Thank you

welcome in Mageia!! :)

are you installing from the live CD or from DVD?

at boot time, when you see grub, you can press f6 and add at the end of the boot line

Code: Select all
xdriver=vesa

in this way you should have a working desktop

then you'll need to setup the internet connection and finally the right video driver,
but these are the next steps

Hi tom_!
Thanks for the answer. I'm installing from the DVD. I'll tray your suggestion, and come back with the result.

Edit:
I added the "xdriver=vesa" option, but the only effect was that the splash image that appears after booting is centered. Then... no X, the same message in bash about trying to configure the X server with drakx11.
I did that again but I get the same error (after running the drakx11 as suggested):
Code: Select all
(EE) Failed to load module "mouse" (module does not exist, 0)
(EE) Failed to load module "kbd" (module does not exist, 0)

Try to change some parameters

Any other suggestions?

Yout got this messages after successful install and reboot? Did you do a "remove-unused-packages", that might removed the x11-driver-input-mouse and x11-driver-input-keyboard. If so boot into runlevel 3, bcome root and reinstall the drivers with
Code: Select all
urpmi x11-driver-input x11-driver-input-mouse x11-driver-input-keyboard

Thank you alf, but I did a fresh install from a live CD and it worked like a charm. Now I'm posting this answer from my brand new Mageia... And I'm happy :p
