Problems with graphics programs

Hi.

I am running Mageia 2 on an Asus X59GL which has an nVidia graphics card. In order to install the distro successfully, I had to disable noapic because of BIOS problems. However, this may be causing various problems with graphics programs:

GIMP: There are two problems here:
1. The FX filters are completely missing, as is the Deconvolution filter under 'Filters - Enhance'.
2. More seriously, the 'Save' screen often freezes, and I cannot save to .tif except by writing over a previous version of the file. Otherwise, I can only save in .xcf .

RawTherapee: This often dos not save. The screen does not freeze, but after one attempt at saving, the 'Save' button remains greyed out.

Luminance: Occasionally, the programme shuts itself down whilst saving.

Does anyone with experience of any of these programs, and who has more exprieance of Mageia 2 than I (about a month!), have any ideas on these problems? I would be grateful for any help. I should also say that the Save problems have not occurred in other kinds of programs.

Ray.

Hi laptopray,
did you tried with both nvidia drivers (nouveau or nvidia proprietary)?

Hi Stblack.

Thanks for your reply. I'm using nVidia proprietary drivers at the moment. I have nouveau installed but not in use. Could that be the problem - that I need to us nouveau instead? BTW, I forgot mention that, although this is a 64 bit machine (Core2Duo), the version of Mageia I'm using is 32 bit - it came with a magazine, but has been thouroughly updated! However, could that make a difference, too?

Not sure if i understand fully, but sounds logical. In most programs, the save button is only available when the program
has detected changes since the last save process.

Hi, doctor5000.

Thanks for replying. I probably did not explain enough.

Sometimes, when I attempt to save, nothing happens. The image does not save in this situation and save progress bar does not appear. but the save button remains grey even though nothing has occured. It has just happened again, about 20 minutes ago.

BTW, I have now rechecked the driver settings via the control panel. Nouveau could not work with the graphics card (nVidia 6100), so I reverted to the the proprietary driver and tweeked some of the settings, but I'm still having the same problems, especially with RawTherapee and Gimp.
