[SOLVED] Graphic problems after install

Postby kjstephan » Sep 9th, '12, 01:21

Hey guys,

I am a first time mageia user and just finished my installation. I am running into some trouble while first booting the system.

I have an nvidia geforce 7200 gs card and two monitors connected. One ist a 22" siemens, the other a 19" belinea.

Now when the system boots the siemens stays black and the graphic on the second flickers every three seconds. According to the log it seems that the nouveau driver resets it any time, finding load on the connectors. If i disable apci this does not happen, but than there is now start of x.
I tried to start the rescue mode, two maybe install some updates, but the rescue mode does not work, it hangs with "failes to issue method call: transaction is destructive"

So i hope someone has an idea how to solve this problem.

Kind regards

Jörg

If i use "save options"for booting there are no devices detected by xorg which leads to "no screens found" and an fatal server error.

Hi,

do you have any particular reason to prefer an open driver over a proprietary nVidia?
By any chance, do you use KDE? Have you tried to set up multiple monitors via System Settings -> Hardware -> Display and monitor -> Multiple monitors?

Hi,

Thx for the reply

Setting the screen does not work and does not remove the failure. Iwould choose the nvidia driver if i know how. But without x graphic its hard for a new user to set wifi and install it. But i guess i must read the docu on that topic.

in console yuo ca run
Code: Select all
drakx11

and choose the driver xorg-vesa

in this way you should have a basic desktop working.

When you have the network connection, enable nonfree and tainted repos,
then try to select the nvidia driver from mcc->hardware
