[SOLVED] My computer turns off while rebooting

I have this weird problem since I installed Mageia 2. I thought it was a bug, but I haven't seen any computer with mageia with this issue. :?

When I choose reboot and Mageia is closed, the system starts booting again, it shows the Bios screen and starts flashing a "-". 1 second after that, the computer shuts down. Some seconds after that, it turns on, load the Bios screen and then the "-" symbol again and it finally loads Grub.

Why does it shut down?
I have installed before Mageia a lot of different Linux distros and now I have also MS Windows, and I didn't have this problem with any Linux distro or Windows!

I have tried reinstalling GRUB too. Anyway, it shuts down BEFORE "Loading Grub" appears, so maybe it's not Grub.

Thanks! :)

What is unusual is that you have the Bios screen appearing at all. Bios screen will appear only if you type some key (varies with computers, like 'esc','delete', 'F8', etc...key) when computer starts up. Suggest you review your options at the Bios screen (if in doubt, use default) and before exiting, save your selection, it will reboot again and hopefully will not reboot thereafter.

If problem persists, check battery of motherboard; it may be due for replacement.

Good luck.

 I haven't explained that well. When I said Bios screen I meant the screen with the logo of the motherboard, where if you press F8, del... you open the Bios menu.

maybe it's the VGA-Bios. At reboot is possibly a mode active which is not suitable for the boot-sequence, thus the graphics card is reinitialized.

Not just the graphics card, it's reinitialized the entire computer, so I don't think this is caused by a wrong graphic card setting on Bios.

If that happens and it really doesn't happen with any other distro, it can be EFI.
You may not need to have GPT partition, but GRUB2 still may be slightly confused by your setup, Linux and EFI are still not very good friends.
Just a blind shot though.

The computer you use is homemade or any specific brand and type? So that it would maybe possible to find more info about it's BIOS/EFI specs?

It's homemade, the motherboard is Gigabyte H6MA-USB3-B3 and the graphics card Nvidia GT 440.
But as I said before, with other Linux distros like Debian and Ubuntu I didn't have this problem.

Yes, I know. And it's exactly why I ask. :)
I had very different issues with various distros on the same HW setups using UEFI.
It may not be UEFI at all, but it can.

I'm in work, so I did a quick search and that revealed zippo. If there is anything in BIOS like "EFI boot" or something, disabling it can't hurt though.

Now it works!! :D Thanks to you said that about the Bios I had the Idea of upgrading the Bios, the Motherboard have a utility to do this easily. Now it works.
Anyway I'll look if there is any option about EFI.

Thanks you!
