Hello to all,
I am new here. I have a dual boot machine, and I am moving from M$ to Linux.
1.- When I boot from my Win 7 in the WD Caviar HD the machine works perfect, no froze at all.
2.- I installed an easy to install distro with kernel 3.2.18 in the SSD but my new computer that has very new hardware, including the latest SSD 520 series from Intel, an NVIDIA GEForce GTX 570HD 2.5GB, gets froze an average of 2 times a day.
3.- I ran memtest for more than 8 hours and no errors, also Intel SSD Tools shows 100% Life and Health for the SSD.
4.- I searched a lot and I think the solution is in the kernel 3.3.6
5.- I think I need to try Mageia because it has the kernel 3.3.6.
6.- I will use it to run various VMs from VirtualBox 4.1.18 this is very important.
6.1 Unfortunately Mageia only has VirtualBox 4.1.12
6.2 How can I do to run my VMs from VirtualBox 4.1.18 if Mageia only has available VirtualBox 4.1.12?
Any information that helps me to safely run my VMs in Mageia with VB 4.1.12 is very much appreciated.

Thanks a lot for your understanding and appreciated help.

My Hardware is:
.Case Cooler Master Elite
.Motherboard ASUS P8Z77-VLX Intel Z77 Chipset
.Intel Core i7 2600k, with Corsair H60 Water Cooling System
.16GB RAM Corsair DDR3 1600 with heat sink
.HD Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB with Win 7 (for Games) connected to SATA 6Gb/s
.Intel SSD Series 520, 240GB with a Linux Distro as Host (with 1 Win 7 VM and 3 Linux VMs), connected to SATA 6Gb/s, for Work and Personal.
.DVD Writer Samsung
.NVIDIA GEForce GTX 570HD 2,5GB
.Ultra Media Card Reader USB 3

Please, one thread per question.
I know 5 hours 42 minutes seems like a long time but consider the fact that everyone involved with Mageia is an unpaid volunteer.
When/if someone that knows the answer comes along (in their spare time) you'll get an answer.

Apart from that, it shouldn't matter which version of Virtualbox those VM's were created with, as the container itself is standardized, there should be no problems running those under 4.1.12.

Do not forget to install dkms-virtualbox-4.1.18 from core/updates_testing as well as the packages kernel-desktop-latest and kernel-desktop-devel-latest and then reboot.

Virtualbox requires a kernel module to be compiled which will happen during the reboot. The reboot will therefore be very slow. Do not assume it has 'hung'.

Hello and thanks to all for your nice help.

I installed Mageia, very fast and easy, but no luck with VirtualBox 4.1.18 I see only the kernels.
Attached please see a screen capture where I mark in red what I did and found.
I have "Mirror list Core Updates Testing (distrib5)" am I missing something?

I tested one VM in an old Version of VB in my old laptop and it did not work, so I need VB 4.1.18

Please let me know what am I doing wrong.
Thanks again, best regards

Hello and thanks to all.

1.- Mageia installed virtualbox 4.1.18 successfully.
2.- I Installed the 'Oracle VM VirtualBox Extension Pack' with the help of this link.
3.- Then the security of Mageia, that is strong, did not allow me access to the Host resources like USB ports and this link helped me to Understanding /etc/group File
3.1 I asigned my linux user to usb, lp, cdrom, cdwriter, audio, video, mail, vboxsf and vboxusers groups.

Since last Sunday I have Mageia in my Host and it did not freeze, I will test it for a couple of weeks, but it seem to me pretty stable.

Thanks for this nice distro :)
