"LIVE" disk powers off

my "LIVE" Mageia 2 disk powers off!
i admit it, i'm a distro whore. i've used mandrake in the past but, too many name changes &, i went to that other distro.
an old lappy happily runs the current live X version. the latest L version is on the hd & it runs great. i've not tried the latest version of that other distro as i thought the DE would probably be too heavy for it.
my problem ...
when i tried to boot the live Mageia 2 disk i got the menu. so i set a UK keyboard and pressed go. the glass was shown, first bubble, second bubble then a blank screen. there is still some disk activity, over a minute, then the disk access light goes out and there is nothing. it has powered off.
is this the latest power saving feature i have seen mentioned ? :D

Can you try to restart with
Code: Select all
xdriver=vesa

on the boot parameters?

sorry tom but i don't know how to do that.
when i boot the live disk i get a menu with 3 options:
live
install
boot hd

the menu then creates a set of boot options for me.

ok, I'm not an expert of live cd, but it should work in this way:

when the grub menu came up, press <ESC>
Press OK when the caution displays.
With the top line ("linux") highlighted, press the letter "e"
and again at the next screen
The cursor should be blinking at the right of a line that starts <UID. mine ends at the
right with 788. Either way, press the space-bar followed by xdriver=vesa
Press the <ENTER> key followed by "b"

not it should boot with a different video driver,
so we can understand if the problem is in the graphic part

Just press F5, select "Default" and enter xdriver=vesa and press Enter.

Yes, you're absolutely right - i even fired up VirtualBox for that to verify, but seems it was way too late yesterday
