KDE4: Always sorts my Icons on the Desktop to the left

Hello!

I always arrange my icons to the folders and programs manually on my dekstop. Unfortunately, Mageia 2 doesn't keep them that way: When I reboot the symbols are aligned randomly to the left. When I change this, reboot, happens again.

After right-click on Desktop, "Symbols", only "align them to grid" is checked, anything else is unchecked.

Any suggestions how I can change this?

It really annoys me and I couldn't find anything on the web either. It seems to be kind of strange and unusal problem/bug.

Any help will be appreciated!

All the best,
lynx

P.S.: KDE-Version: 4.8.2
OS: Linux 3.3.6-desktop-2.mga2 x86_64

You can try to lock symbol positions via the same context menu and/ or try to lock all plasmoids via the "Cashew" in the upper right corner.
If both doesn't work, this is an old glitch of KDE4, unfortunately :(

I maybe sticking my nose in where it is not required but have you tried this:

1) On a blank space on the desktop, right-click.
2) Select the option at the bottom of the sub-menu that pops up.
3) Select 'Display'
4) Under 'Icons' you can pretty well do what you want.

First of all, sorry for my late response. But I had to be sure that things aren't working and this bug still persists.

@Doktor5000: Locking symbols via the context menu doesn't help. The symbols still arange randomly on the left side of my desktop. What I did now, and I never tried that before, is locking all plasmoids via the cashew. I just did this several minutes ago, so I'll keep you updated in a couple of days if it is finally working or not.

@pinnerite: Yeah, I know that already. That is exactly what doktor5000 said when he mentioned the "context menu".

What I need is: In the context menu under View - > symbols there is an attribute which is called "arrangement". Unfortunately you won't find an option "never" there. I think that would solve this issue.

Strange bug. I'll keep you updated. See you soon.

Kind regards,
lynx

If locking all plasmoids doesn't help, then you're out of luck. This problem occurs since the switch to KDE4 and has never been fixed properly upstream.

Okay, this was fast: Locking the plasmoids did not work, symbols still aranging on the left.

Well, finally I think I can do nothing. Annoying, really annoying.

If someone some day will discover a solution for this problem or a bugfix, please let me know, I give up now. Bad luck.

Have you tried recreating your desktop by renaming .kde4 to (say) .kde4-old and rebooting?
If it doesn't work, switch back.
If it does, mine's a pin of bitter.
Best of luck.
