gcompris/gnuchess crashes

I just installed gcompris because my son wanted to play chess. I installed it in my 32-bit laptop Mag2 as well as my 64-bit desktop Mag2. But in both computers gcompris crashes, after the first move in chess. The application just vanishes without any message even on Konsole (here's copy from Konsole). What's wrong; what can I do? Is this a problem with gcompris or gnuchess? Some other games and apps in gcompris works fine, so I'm guessing it's the gnuchess. It did work on Mag1. Does anyone have any idea what to do?

And I'm running KDE4.

Code: Select all

Update:
It seems that in the 64-bit desktop installation gcompris does not crash when playing chess, but it does not work. When in a task (to play against computer) you start by moving whites, the system gets stuck on black move. You cannot move blacks and the comp does not move the blacks. And some other problems making chess completely unplayable.

The output shown in first post, that was after the crash? As there's no error message or something like that ...
Can you have a look in ~/.xsession-errors for relevant informations?

Yes, that's all I get in Konsole. As you can see, this is where I started gcompris and that's what it looks like after having crashed. So there's absolutely nothing related to the crash.

And there's nothing more I can find in ~/.xsession-errors. Just those same lines I posted above can be found there.

Not really a solution, but check out Knights, a KDE-based Chess game.

Thanks jankusanagi. That's one option for chess.

But as you said, there's still a problem with gcompris. I tried the Knights and as far as I can see, it uses still gnuchess as it's chess engine. And as this Knights seems to work fine, I can draw the conclusion that it's gcompris that's "broken" - not gnuchess.
