Any chance of getting a backport of the old kmail?

I have spent a week after installing the new Mageia 2 [which generally I like] trying to recover my old emails - as yet unsuccessful but still trying:-)

Your old kmail emails will be in Maildir format which should be easy enough to recover. What are you trying to do with them? Are you importing into new kmail or something else?

I too have spent the best part of a week TRYING to get kmail working. Akonadi generates its file structure and its serverver is running. Kmail still refuses to connect after ONE time of successfully accessing my pop3 account from my ISP. When I try to re-run kmail it errors out!!!!

Can someone PLEASE provide a kmail howto starting with deleting kwalletmanager kmail entries, deleting kmalrc, deleting kamil2 (in apps directory), and deleting the onld akonadi files.
This is so incredibly frustrating that I'm about to remove Mageia from this computer and re-install Mandriva 2010.2 which has been working flawlessly.....
Unbelievable that an email program is so ridiculously hard to get set up and working.

kmail 1.x is dead upstream, not maintained anymore & since KDE SC 4.7 it was not possible to build kdepim 4.4.x (so kmail 1.x), that's why for example we did choose to provide kmail 1.x with mageia 1.
On the mageia wiki i suggested to start from a fresh configuration for kmail 2 instead of the migration tool which sometimes failed.
It could be useful to have more information about the problem you're currently facing (not that i promise that it's going to get fixed of course).
For example if it's a « offline » issue when kmail seems to not detected correctly the network, there's an update candidate for this point available on mirrors on which QA is working.

I'm not interested in Kmail1 (not meaning to get off topic....). I just want Kmail to work!!! Mine was a fresh install of Mageia 2 in a Mandriva environment.

I was answering in one post to the first question (backport of kmail ) & ask for more details about your problem (bobw).
So could you please add more details about the errors you're facing ?
What is your setup ?
You said for example you were using a pop account, are you using some filters ? (spam/virus/others filters)
What are thoses errors ?
Offline account ?
Wrong/missing password ?
etc etc.

Here for example i'm using 2 imaps account (one gmail & another under dovecot imapd server for my own domain) without problem, i'm not using any filter (filtering is done via SIEVE on the dovecot server & via gmail's rules for the other one).

Setup is w/pop3 account as I mentioned in my post. Login/password is correct as I mentioned in my post.
Kmail encounters a fatal error when run - 'Failed to find the resource collection." Fixes for this issue posted elsewhere on this forum do not work. Akonadi is started/stopped with the Akondai configuration app. I click on the test button and all checks out.
It seems that Kmail is not linking to the Akondai database. Is there ANY way to run Kmail without using Akondai (it's own private mailbox as in the previous version?

kmail is now just an akonadi client so you can't run it without akonadi.
Seems like you have a misconfiguration in your kmail/akonadi setup so here i guess there's no real workaround to fix it either manually or to drop the kmail/akonadi configuration & start from a fresh one. ( cf https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=259355 )
