[SOLVED]XFCE no window decorator, stuck with 1 desktop.

I upgraded Mag 1 to Mag 2. Usually I do not be do upgrades, since they are often pron to problems. Though I would try it, the upgrade went well enough. Only big issue was MCC wouldn't start. Found the fix in errata.

I'm not a KDE fan, I'll sometimes use it, with most of the eye candy turned off. That said, thought I'd give the 3d cube a try. Bad idea. It did some strange things to KDE. Turned it back off, and fixed up KDE to be in a useable state.

Logged into xfce, my desktop of choice. It worked well on Mag 1. I did not try it before mucking around with 3d, so I don't know if it worked or not beofre.

Right now I don't get a window decorator in xfce, so I can not re-size or move windows. I have only one desktop. I went into XFCE settings manager, and set it for 4 desktops, I only get one, never 4.

I went into MCC, remove and install software, and removed everything xfce. I picked task-xfce and re-installed. Same problems, no window decorator, and one desktop.

Some how this smells like something the 3d cube has messed up. No idea how to fix it, short of a clean install. Ideas?

Hi!

Delete in your Home-folder .gtkrc* and everything that belongs to XFCE.

Delete in

/home/YOURUSER/.cache/
/home/YOURUSER/.config/share/
/home/YOURUSER/.local

everything XFCE

Then try again. XFCE should start in basic configuration with standard borders.

Don't use oxygen-gtk as theme, it's buggy and you will lose your window borders ....

cheers,
Bernd

Thank-you for your reply. I have managed to fix it, although I think I was a little more gnetle than your suggestion. I went into .config and .cache, located the xfce folders, and renamed them. I copied the same folders ( as root ) from another user into .cache and .config. I logged into Xfce, and all is well. I have window decorations, 4 desktops etc. So all appeas well at this point.

This thread is solved.
