[SOLVED]Where can i download Mageia .rpms online

Postby knightron » May 28th, '12, 11:04

Gday. Kde; i don't like the gui program that Mageia uses to handle networks, it doesn't want to work with my mobile broadband. I'd rather use network-manager-applet-gnome. I can't connect to the net off my mageia partition so would like to download the rpm files i need off the net so i can instal them manually. I've done this before on other distros, so i can handle the process quite easily.
I can't find where i can download these rpm files though, can someone please steer me in the right direction?
thankyou

You could get them off one of the mirrors here
http://mirrors.mageia.org/

The rpms should be in distrib/<mageia version>/<arch>/media/core/release on one of the mirrors.

For mobile broadband another option which i've used is http://www.sakis3g.org/

As I understand sakis3g is just a script which helps you to establish a 3G connection, it has no relation to selecting or downloading a package. Or did I miss something on the webpage?

Yes, but you need to download only that one script, as it also contains bundled usb_modeswitch and usb-modeswitch-data, which otherwise you'd need to fetch manually, among others. It's what i used when drakconnect didn't allow me to use an empty PIN and when i couldn't install networkmanager due to no network connection. And for networkamanager you probably need quite some more packages, which would be a hassle to fetch manually.

But i'm currently not sure if sakis3g still needs comgt or ppp, which are essential packages for modems.

Ah, you're thinking too fast for me :)
It will spare the need to download all the RPMs needed for the Mageia solution.

Not only the time, but it's quite a complicated and lengthy process to find out all dependencies manually one by one and fetch those from another box.
That's what i do usually to bootstrap my wireless, so i know what i'm talking but. I've gotten used to it, but for a novice that's no easy thing to do, and rather stressy.

Just edit your original post and prefix [SOLVED] to the title.
