I just installed mageia and it worked well. I chose the gnome desktop. Then I updated to the new version, and a few seconds after I logged in, it froze. Nothing worked, not even ctl-alt-del. The new version seemed to have installed the KDE desktop. I booted in safe mode and everything was OK, but went I ran kdm the same thing happened again. I would appreciate any help you could give me. Thanks in advance.

edit by moderation: many carriage returns removed. (By the way the last sentence here under seems not to be finished).

Hi Eubillie,

I understand you installed Mageia 1 (how? using the DVD, a LiveCD, a boot.iso ?) and then updated it (how?) to Mageia 2 almost right away. To me that seems a detour. If I understood correctly what you did, could you then try again by just installing Mageia 2?

If I misunderstood, could you please explain more precisely which steps you took that led to the freezes?

Just something to think about as this sounds like an old mandriva bug of usb goes offline when you start x

Have you got a normal ps2 keyboard.

Does that do anything.

Just trying to establish if theres any kernel running.

Also does it still ping, can you install and enable ssh.

Then login over the network and see what its doing.

In safe mode using if nessasary drakconf, or command line if you know how.
