How to use HP dv9000 biometric scanner in Mageia 2 ?

Let me first say that Mageia 2 has turned out perfectly on all PC's I've tried the 64bit LiveCD with. Everything i've attached to the computer have been identified properly and work great. Including my USB wifi adapters and built in adapters.
The only thing that I haven't been able to get to function is the biometric scanner in my HP dv9000 laptop.

(Bus 001 Device 002: ID 08ff:2580 AuthenTec, Inc. AES2501 Fingerprint Sensor)
Is there anyway that I can use this device to identify users? (eg. root user authentication) At this point I can't see how this scanner can even be used. I do not use KDE and looking for a way to use this in GNOME3.
Thanks everyone for once again a terrific release!
