Close "X" causes black screen w/lockup

Updated Mageia 1 to Mageia 2 and now if I use the "X" to close, the screen goes black. The mouse pointer shortly thereafter locks up and the keyboard shuts down. This happens in the browser (Firefox ESR, but can close tabs within Firefox with no problem), and any screen in Mageia Control Center or in the Tools. Thank you for any ideas on how to stop this behavior!

Are you using some kind of 3D desktop effects, maybe those integrated within KDE or compiz? And which desktop environment are you currently using?
Also, does this problem persist with a freshly created user?

I turned off all 3D desktop effects right from the very start. The problem may have something to do with the fact I was running Mageia 1 with GNOME and the upgrade to Mageia 2 defaulted to KDE. I am unable to reset the system to GNOME as that crashes the machine. Also, Flash ended up in the Lost & Found folder after the upgrade and some pages using Flash also crash the system. I was also unable to create a new user without crashing. Haven't tried out the "Guest" login yet as Mageia 1 was set to auto login to my user and Mageia 2 is auto logging-in even though that is not the setting under System Tools.

Please report the issues in separate threads, and don't mangle them up in one, makes it much harder to help.
