Several problems after upgrading to Mageia 2

Hello everyone,

After upgrading to version 2 yesterday I noticed a number of problems. I don't feel like starting four threads - I hope you don't mind. Searches will still lead here in case someone has similar issues.

My problems are:

1. No sound.
2. Cannot run MCC. (solved: https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Mageia_2_Err ... conf_issue)
3. Firefox crashes on some pages (I'm not sure what content causes this). For instance, this always happens when loading the front page of a Finnish news site, hs.fi.
4. Lost some icons (at least the Firefox default theme lost its 'close' X's). "Solved" by installing another theme.
5. (Startup takes two times as long as it used to).

As you can see, there are minor and major ones. I'm not quite sure where to start with these, and I was hoping you could help me.

Code: Select all
[root@antarktis]# cat /proc/asound/cards
 0 [NVidia         ]: HDA-Intel - HDA NVidia
HDA NVidia at 0xfaef8000 irq 22
 1 [NVidia_1       ]: HDA-Intel - HDA NVidia
HDA NVidia at 0xfaf7c000 irq 19

Does this mean that only HDMI output is recognised? I'm not sure.

Code: Select all
[root@antarktis tapksa]# mcc

Maybe access to MCC would help me with my sound problems?

I have some experience with Linux, but I am definitely no wiz. I'm new to Mageia but I did use Mandriva 2007 when it was new.

Thanks! -T

A good place to start is at the errata

Sound problems are often astoundingly simple to fix. The most common problems are :-
1/ Sound muted - Take a look at both the volume controls in your desktop, and at the pulse audio volume control (Menu>Sound>PulseAudion)

2/ Wrong output port selected or other misconfiguration - If you look at the pulse audio volume control and select the Configuration and Output Tabs you will see the options provided by your sound card. Have a play until you find a combination that works.

If no luck open a separate post in the 'Sound' section of this forum.
