How do you roll back an upgrade?

Just did the online upgrade to M2 - Don't like. Wirless can't connect, wallpaper/icons/themes changed, tried to force Gnome3, etc, etc.... Why did it adopt/make these changes without asking?

Still a noob.....

Got my WiFi back.... but what a mess... everything I don't like M2 has managed to setup/install.

And it keeps on trying Gnome3 when it starts up.

Why did it adding applications I didn't ask for?

Scrubbing it and going back to M1 - at least I know where everything is.

I guess its worth echoing the words that have been said many times before.

before you upgrade please use clonezilla to take a snapshot/backup of your system.

Then for what ever reason the upgrade is not to your liking , and there can be many, from just dont like as in this example, to
HW compatibility issues, apps that you used to run wont now, and you need it back quickly, etc.

Although from what ive seen on the test install ive done, Prior to upgrading my trusty steed, the KDE version, is really nice.

I'm not so bothered about making a clone of my installation, this is a test/spare machine so it's not much bother to scrub and start again. It's the fact that there's wholescale changes to my personal setup that doesn't fit well with me. Never has, and one of the things I hated about MS/Windows.

I went back and re-installed M1 from the live CD and all was getting back to how I liked it, but I've come back to this and my desktop furniture has just gone... vanished .... Just the wallpaper. I give up. I might be a Linux newbie (and I'm no doubt making a lot of mistakes), but I'm learning a lot and I've effectivley given up Windows on my main PC and notebook for Mint and Puppy respectively. I was trying to enjoy the merits of alternate distros, and the first impressions of M1 were good, but this upgrade has dampened my enthusiasm for it.

Anyway, thanks for your thoughts. I will try again no doubt when my disappointment has subsided.

Well, Gnome3 is the replacement for Gnome2, and this is the only one supported upstream, wo we had to update to that. Also it's naturally that a new release will have a new theme, wallpapers and icons and things like that. And you can always change away to not use Gnome if you don't want that, from the login manager. Actually i don't know where your problem is?

Well my problem is that I would have expected a choice on migration to preserve my settings and deskop manager, etc, not overwrite it completely. Given this was on an older machine, the latest fancy screen candy was what I was trying to avoid, so I could concentrate on Mageia's good points without too much fluff getting in the way.

That's my problem.

If you are only going to slap me down if I express disappointment (and if this is going to be representative of the senior community members) then I do not want to stay with Mageia.

Well, your settings are kept inside your /home/username, and the upgrade/installation doesn't touch or overwrite them, so they are still where they were before the installation/upgrade. But without knowing more details what exactly went wrong, i can't really help any further. Just a hint, if you create a new user, you get at least the default configuration, and then you can migrate your old settings back there.

Well, nobody slapped you down, i don't know how you came to that conclusion. Mind to elaborate on that? If somebody critizies properly, that's always welcome, as without it we couldn't really improve and grow.
