[SOLVED] Panasonic Toughbook CF-29 Touchscreen Calibration

Postby R_Head » May 20th, '12, 21:30

Hello everybody; I am a long time user or Mandrake/Mandriva and now I am taking Mageia for spin. So far is been great!

I decided to reload my Panasonic Toughbook CF-29 with Mageia since the Mandriva 2010.2 took a dive on me after an update.
The version the I am using is Mageia RC2 (CD Media) since for some odd reason Mageia 1 did not wanted to load.
As is right now all worked right out the bat no a single configuration need it; very impressed so far.

The Touchscreen works pretty darn good; except that is not seems to be calibrated properly.

Poked around a bit and I could not find anything that will help me to calibrate it.

There is a way to calibrate the Touchscreen?

Start the Mageia Control Centre, bottom left side of taskbar, or look in the menu under, Tools->System_Tools.

After you start it up, there should be a section titled Hardware, and look at the "Set up the pointer device (mouse touchpad).... I'm currently looking at a Mageia1 screen, but it should be a similar location.
(I ran into a similar problem on a Beta https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=5292, so if you can resolve this quickly while working with RC, hopefully any fixes required get included in Release).

There is no Pointer Device but there is an Imput Device.

I am using KDE so that is what I see on Tools>System Tools>System Settings.

The Touchpad section is greyed-out so is nothing that I can do.

Is listed on the Mageia Control Center (MCC)>Hardware as:
LBPS/2 Fujitsu Lifebook TouchScreen.

As stated before, is nice to see it work but is not quiet there yet, is near perfect :)

I love this distro! :D

If you have the patience to type in and submit a bug report, I would highly recommend doing it ASAP, to hopefully catch final release. You'll be doing yourself a favour because it fixes your problem, and you'll be doing others a favour since you helped solve a bug (kind of important if the other users have less skill in computing and therefore can't quite pick the right choice of words to define their problem ...other than "it's broken").

You could probably use the bug report I pointed-out above as a template, or idea to begin your own bug report.
The more information you can provide, the easier it will be to diagnose.

I have to agree with you, it is a nice distro. :)

Final release is today 20:00UTC and time for last changes ran out more than one week ago, FWIW.
Also submitting a bug report does not mean it will get magically fixed in a few hours ...

True, just bad timing.

I have been around Linux long enough to understand.

Been using Mandrake since 1999, I am perhaps one of the few club members left. The good ol' days of Gaël Duval, #1 in Distrowatch rankings, Standard, Silver and Gold membership along with the Pro Suite Editions.

Consider this thread / problem solved!

Used the Packet xinput_calibrator - A generic touchscreen calibration program for X.Org

Once you install the application it will be located at..

Kicker>Tools>System Tools>Calibrate Touchscreen

The console comes up with a script and the screens turns white with a timer and 4 crosshairs.
It suggest to use a pointer for accuracy.
Once is done it closes and you exit the console.

Works preety darn good; very pleased and easy to use.
