When I select the option to receive files using the Bluetooth Applet (i.e., gnome-bluetooth) the applet prompts to install the "Personal File Sharing Program"


...but nothing in the repositories matches this description.

Ideas? Suggestions?

A short google search reveals (showing the gnome documentation for "personal file sharing" at the first place, BTW) that the command would be gnome-user-share. But as i don't use gnome, i can't really help you with that one. But why select an option to receive files, why not just send something to your box? You only need to make sure that your box is visible for other bluetooth devices.

Yeah, no. There is no gnome-user-share in the Mageia repositories:

I'm no Bluetooth expert, but I do know from my attempts in the past that sending/receiving files using Bluetooth is a bit more complicated (i.e., obtuse) than using the standard client/server paradigm. AFAICT, there needs to be a special daemon installed to receive files and I'm pretty sure that that's what the Bluetooth Applet (i.e., gnome-bluetooth) is asking for.

Well, i wrote the command would be gnome-user-share, but you're searching for packages. FWIW, this should have been urpmf gnome-user-share
and yes, it's not packaged for Mageia. Should have added FYI before that.

Uhmm, that daemon which is responsible for bluetooth would be bluez, and it should be always installed when you have any bluetooth applet already running, so no need for that. Under KDE, it's like pressing the bluetooth button above my keyboard, making sure my box is discoverable by other devices (has to be done only one time and then just start sending files to other devices, or browsing them or sending files to my box.

Still don't know what you mean, first you want to receive files, now you want to understand some bluetooth standard?
By the way, which part of the standard and for what use case, you know, bluetooth has many use cases nowadays ...

I still have yet to manage to recieve files using KDE.

Sending to android, no problem.
Recieving I get no obex server found or some such, says paired but not connected.
Same using a Blackberry or Android, or even sending from a box running WinXP.

New to bluetooth, but not new to linux.
This should be seamless and obvious but it's apparently not.

Is there a (current) how to for bluetooth on Mageia, perhaps using the brand new KDE BT stack?
(I'm trying to use the KDE setup)

I've had no problem using BT on KDE. I have a program installed under internet>Blue Devil. All it does is give me the busy icon...then stop. I think that may be because it is running, but when I plugin a BT dongle I get a BT icon in the system tray.

After fiddling around with it a second I can browse my phone and get files etc.

It just works so I really can't help. The default PIN for my phone is 1234.

Running Toshiba Laptop, Mageia 2 and didn't add anything for Bluetooth I don't think.

I think it just worked.
