me-tv broken in MGA2 ?

Cauldron 64-bit with all updates. KDE.
Adapter Happauge Nova-T, firmware is in /lib/firmware, plugging in the adapter gives success message in syslog: "Hauppauge Nova-T in warm state"

Installed is me-tv (including dependencies):
Code: Select all
me-tv-1.3.6-3.mga2
dvb-apps-1.1.1-8.hg1465.1.mga2
lib64unique1.0_0-1.1.6-6.mga2
lib64dvbapps-1.1.1-8.hg1465.1.mga2

After installation and starting the application me-tv shows a message that the existing Me-Tv database is to old to be used by this version (why does it install this old database then?). Option "Cancel" ends the whole application, clicking on "Erase old Me-Tv data" the messagebox runs into a freeze which crashes the whole application. In the konsole this looks like:
Code: Select all
$ me-tv -v
Me TV 1.3.6
05.05.2012 15:02:55: Application constructor
05.05.2012 15:02:55: sqlite3_threadsafe() = 1
05.05.2012 15:02:55: Database 'exists'
05.05.2012 15:02:55: Opening database file '/home/alfred/.local/share/me-tv/me-tv.db'
05.05.2012 15:02:55: Loading UI files
05.05.2012 15:02:55: Application constructed
05.05.2012 15:02:55: Initialising table 'version'
05.05.2012 15:02:55: Required Database version: 6
05.05.2012 15:02:55: Actual Database version: 0  <<--- here the message box pops up and I click on "Erase old data"
05.05.2012 15:03:26: Dropping Me TV schema
05.05.2012 15:03:26: Dropping table 'channel'
05.05.2012 15:03:26: Dropping table 'epg_event'
05.05.2012 15:03:26: Dropping table 'epg_event_text'
05.05.2012 15:03:26: Dropping table 'scheduled_recording'
05.05.2012 15:03:26: Dropping table 'version'
05.05.2012 15:03:26: Vacuuming database
05.05.2012 15:03:27: Initialising table 'channel'
05.05.2012 15:03:27: Initialising table 'epg_event'
05.05.2012 15:03:27: Initialising table 'epg_event_text'
05.05.2012 15:03:27: Initialising table 'scheduled_recording'
05.05.2012 15:03:27: Initialising table 'version'
and that's it.

In MGA1 Me-TV works nicely with the same adapter. In MGA1 the package is me-tv-1.3.6-1.1.mga1 - in MGA2 the packages is me-tv-1.3.6-3.mga2
Searching bugzilla I found no entry for me-tv.

Please see my reply in the german forum. Here's a link to the relevant mailing list thread, maybe it would be better to answer there:

Unfortunately my joy was expressed too early.
Now the window is very unstable and freezes after a short time - more in the mailing list thread.

Unfortunately there's not much i can do, as the only other option would be to switch to me-tv 1.4 branch, which the main developer considers as still too buggy:
See https://launchpad.net/me-tv/+download# f.ex.
If you do some tests with other versions, i'm more than happy to change the package to something that works.
Another issue may be me-tv's usage of libunique -> see the "Warning" header at http://live.gnome.org/LibUnique

FWIW Debian also ships 1.3.6 version of me-tv, but libraries may be older than ours, and Arch seems to ship 1.4, so there is some chance this could work better than what we have currently ... But i can't just updated it untested - and i can't spare a physical cauldron installation. But otherwise, if it's currently buggy, freezes and stuff - it couldn't get any worse ...

Thx for your efforts. For now I'll stick to kaffeine. Maybe we can get to better results (and time to test) after MAG2 release and Linuxtag.
(BTW: may be somebody of the project is at Linuxtag.... you think it's somehow related to Gnome? I'm using KDE, but I have the same crashes in Gnome).

Well, i don't know, as i said i can't really test it in cauldron, will probably only get to it after my working system was switched to Mageia 2, which may take a while ...

EDIT: If you want to try, i can provide me-tv-1.4.0.9 packages built against current cauldron.

I think we should wait until after MGA2 release, there are other more important things to do now (on my desk)
1. So far I am the only one who reported crashes, so it may be related to something else locally.
2. You can take a look at my installation in Berlin

Yep: https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=6896#c0
But didn't get around to test that and commit it, because i don't like pushing out untested stuff, and currently i don't have DVB hardware available, maybe next weekend.

Thank Christian for the nice hint :)

Hopefully Oliver will return my DVB-T stick at FrOSCon, after that I'm ready to play guinea pig (or crash test dummy if you prefer).

BTW: This thread could be moved to "Basic Support"

Well, i've checked both versions, normal me-tv from Mageia 2, and the one with the patch. Didn't notice big differences yet, and also i don't have unusually high I/O load and me-tv works normally, doesn't freeze. Maybe it's also important how the DVB receiver handles EPG data? FWIW, i tested with a Hauppauge NovaT 500 (usb id 2040:5200).

You are not talking about the patch you installed in Berlin?

Nope, that one is already contained in Mageia 2 me-tv, and was only for the database init problem, which caused me-tv to not start properly under some circumstances.
