[SOLVED] Need LXDE Help

I am finishing the setup of a new Mageia 1 box. I have discovered that I despise GNOME 3, so I've recently started using LXDE. This is the first Mageia system that I've installed LXDE on.

Everything was working fine. However, after I installed TigerVNC, I couldn't run the 'vncserver' service. Rather than trying to figure out why it was failing, I removed it and installed the free version of NoMachine's NX. The NX client doesn't support LXDE, so I needed to install KDE for when I remote to the new box.

I remembered having seen a display manager setup under MCC's 'Boot' area, so I went there. I selected 'KDE' and clicked 'OK'. I assumed that I would get a list of dependencies for KDE, and then it would install after my confirmation. Instead, the window just closed when I clicked 'OK'. I decided that I would worry about KDE later and did some other things.

A few minutes ago I rebooted the system. The login screen is now "KDE Style." However, once I log in, I have only a bare bones X system... the standard menu at the bottom and a black screen (screen capture below). How do I "restore" LXDE?

Thank you!

Hi.

You changed the Display-Manager to KDM. A better word for "Display-Manager" would be "Login-Manager". You are using the KDE Login -Manager now.
This is no problem - I do the same with LXDE. You can use the Display i.e. Login-Manager you like the best.

To start LXDE, you have to select it the first time. There are two icons with KDM. The left one is a sheet of paper with a pencil. Click it. Choose LXDE. Then login. LXDE should start now.
The next time you need only Your password, LXDE will start automatically, unless you change to something else ...

cheers,
Bernd

Edit: You have to select LXDE. On your screenshot is the ICEWM-Windowmanager

Edit2: If you want to install KDE, do as root:
Code: Select all
urpmi task-kde4
