[Pkg Request] Byzanz

byzanz is a simple but at the same time easy to handle screencasting utility, building screencasts as gif, so they can be displayed in a browser without needing any plugins like flash or whatever.
Sources available in http://ftp.gnome.org/pub/GNOME/sources/byzanz/

Question: It is not in the repos of Mageia 1, is it planned for Mageia 2 or should I open a request in Bugzilla?

AFAIK it's not planned, maybe it could be a problem with Gnome3, as this has been released for Gnome2 only, and last release was February 2011.
But it could be added as an update to Mageia 1, because it's available for Mandriva 2010.2. But in any case, you should file a package request
so that one of our Gnome guys can take a peek at it :)

BTW: Colin mentioned Gnome has a rather good built-in screencasting thingie, at least Gnome3. I can't tell as i don't use Gnome.
Also misc just told me that for Gnome3 it would be Ctrl+Alt+Shift+R to access the built-in screencaster.

My attention was grabbed by a short article in the German Linux site ProLinux, where this tool was introduced today: http://www.pro-linux.de/kurztipps/2/154 ... chnen.html

I wanted to install it in my Ubuntu installation but the apt-get install command did not find such a package. Probably the author of the article runs an older Ubuntu version.
My intention was to have an alternative to the recordmydesktop and to have a tool which generates output which does not need any plugins to be viewed. And a tool which is available for non-Gnome installations as well. :)

Opened a bug report: https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=4812

BTW it also supports output to .webm videos which can be played via most recent browsers natively.
