Does anyone have any experience of installing Mageia on an ASUS Eeepc 1015PX? Mageia runs a treat on my older EeePC 1008AH, but the Win 7 install on the 1015 looks a bit on the complex side, with the recovery from disaster option on the HDD, rather than from a separate CD. From my first look at Windows 7, I dislike it even more than Windows XP, so it's a bit important to get Mageia on, and multi bootable, before Win 7 drives me mad.

Why does Windows 7 drive you mad, any particular problems?

Otherwise, i'd just install it and then check back here in case issues arise.

It's all a bit academic now. I've sent the thing back for a refund. Mainly because I found that it runs a 64 bit processor and one of my more critical applications will only run on a 32 bit machine. But I was unimpressed with many aspects of the thing. Win7 starter was a joke. The matt finish, while not showing finger marks was susceptible to grease which wasn't so easy to wipe off as a glossy finish. I was not impressed with the mouse pad button bar. The general appearance of the thing was not a patch on the PC1008H that I was intending to replace. I found too, that the angle of the screen was such that the best viewing angle would only be achieved if I had eyes in the middle of my chest. As fo my problems with Win 7. It seems to me that every issue of Windows seems to be dumbed down even further than the last. The next version, i anticipate will look like something out of the nursery. Doesn't matter, like an 64bit Mageia can run 32bit programs, so can windows. You know these processors are backwards compatible?

Windows 7 starter has some restrictions, that is true, but correspondent with it's price. But where is it dumbed down?
Sorry i don't agree with you, and i'd like you to remember that while we're in a linux forum here, this is not
about Microsoft- or bashing of other distros. This is just not constructive.
