[SOLVED] KDE : How to create launcher

Postby pmithrandir » Jan 11th, '12, 08:53

Hi,

In the new mageia in alpha, there is something new in KDE.
You can create launcher.

A launcher is an icon in the taskbar, by default of dolphin or firefox, replaced by the statut of the software when it's open.

I would like to create such icon for chromium, CCM, KDE configuration...

Do you know how to proceed ?

Thanks,
Pierre

Yep.
Just drag it from the KDE menu. You might need to hover a little but before releasing the icon, just to see that the other icons there move over and make room for it.

With that way, I create icon, but not launcher. Do I do anything bad ?
Thanks

When I drag an icon of an application from the menue to the taskbar it will show up there and I can click it to start the application. Isn't that what you mean?

BTW: You first step should be to unlock the taskbar (in the shoebox, former cashew).

In the new KDE, there is 2 sort of icons in the taskbar.

The object "icon" that stay in the bar, even if the application is open. As quicklaunch menu in windows.

But there is a new object name "launcher".
It's an icon, a little bit smaller than usal, placed right to the desktop choice. When you click on it, the application open and the icon vanish. When you close the application, the icon come back.

Do you see what I mean ?

I think he means the same as the newer concept from windows 7 taskbar,
where the launcher icon after starting the program turns into the window list entry.

Yes, I just saw that (did not see it before). Well, I don't know what benefits I could get from this way, but here goes:

Open the application from the start menue. You will see the icon of the running application in the taskbar. Now right-click on that icon and mark "Show a launcher when not running"¹. Done. The launcher will show when you close the application.

¹ = menue item in English (not translated yet).
