[SOLVED] Kernel-Desktop reloading?

Postby Canuck » Jan 3rd, '12, 05:56

I managed to corrupt the latest kernel on my system: 2.6.38.8-desktop-8.mga I am writing this using the backup kernel 2.6.38.8-desktop-6.mga

The corruption came through installing a file which I suspect was from a defective Mageia DVD install disk which I downloaded and burned today, because I did not have my original/good install DVD with me
.
So, while I am using 2.6.38.8-desktop-6.mga IS IT SAFE to remove the latest (corrupted) kernel 2.6.38.8-desktop-8.mga and then reinstall it? I desperately need my laptop as I am travelling and do not have an install DVD with me.

You crazy Canuck. Hey wait a minute, I resemble that remark.
Although I doubt that the DVD was the problem the answer to your question is yes.
You can even uninstall the running kernel then install it again as long as you have another kernel installed.
That reminds me that I should file a bug on removing a running kernel, I did file one with Mandriva but nothing came of it.

I see that I failed to respond to the DVD issue.
There was no need to download and burn a DVD, if you had gone to MCC > Configure media sources for install and update then unchecked the DVD sources you could have installed the two RPM's you needed from the Internet.
