In VLC, I tried disabling hardware-accelerated decoding, because someone posted on this forum in 2022 about DVD movies not playing in Mageia 8, and apparently that was helpful for them. However, disabling hardware-accelerated decoding [in the VLC Preferences menu] did not improve my situation, so now I've restored that to its default Automatic setting.
When I try playing a DVD movie in Videos/Totem it displays the movie or television series title, then this-
"An error occurred - The source seems encrypted and can't be read. Are you trying to play an encrypted DVD without lobdvdcss?"
These are commercially released entertainment DVDs, not encrypted content.
I searched the MCC software manager for any uninstalled package with "lobdvdcss" in the name, did not turn up anything.
These packages are installed-
