-which I just did with my mga9 installation, which is upgraded from mga7 & mga8. What does the following indicate, and would it be preferable for me to delete unavailable mga7 & mga8 packages, or just leave them alone? If deletion is recommended, how is it done?

Well it indicates what you mentioned - all of those packages are not available from any of the currently enabled/configured repositories - although be sure to have e.g. tainted / nonfree repos configured if you installed packages from those in the past.
This is often the case with libraries on upgraded installations, as those are usually not automatically removed.
(the other part are usually packages installed from 3rd party repositories)

You could simply try to remove all of them via

If this is possible and only removes the number of packages listed by "urpmq --not-available" then feel free to go ahead.
