Setting locale in Plasma System Settings is buggy?

Hi,

In another topic about changing the locale, doktor5000 advised me not to use the Plasma System Setting (under Regional Settings):

If you want to change the locale, either please use localedrake https://doc.mageia.org/mcc/9/en/content ... ocaledrake or localectl directly.
Please don't use the one from plasma (System Settings, under Regional Settings) as that one has been buggy in the past.

I tried to find a bug report about this bug, but couldn't find it.

1. Is there a bug report?

2. Is there a solution for this bug?

3. I think this can be an important issue for first time users of Mageia, as they do not know about this problem.
(I'm not a first time user, but was hit by this bug when installing a photobook app from CeWe, and I couldn't install that program because of a locale problem that I didn't know of).

Regards from Amsterdam,

Marc.

Well, there's no Mageia bug report because most users will not hit this.
For a regular installation localedrake is run during initial setup and will set locale settings, there's no need to use systemsettings for that.
Found an older thread about this, the user wanted to report a bug for this but seems he never did after fixing it: https://forums.mageia.org/en/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=12738
The problem also came from the fact he selected locale in systemsettings which causes his issues.

There are quite a few upstream reports about locale settings:
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=176650
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=491305
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=465495

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=428590

Feel free to comment on those or open a new one there.

Hi dokter,

Having read all the bug reports that you mentioned, I'm afraid another bug report from me wouldn't help.
This problem with locales (locally vs. systemwide) was already reported in 2008, at the upstream level of KDE.org. Which is 16 years ago!
Since then, all participants in the bug conversations admit that it is a bug.
But until today KDE hasn't come up with a solution, other than the suggestion that the Linux distributions could solve this bug in their distro.
